Joei states, " art serves as my window out of pain1" It was after she suffered a traumatic brain injury that she decided to give art a place in her life full of self healing and love! Joei started making art after securing housing, in her home in Paonia Colorado. While Art is her main passion, she considers managing her brain injury as a full-time job — as she deals with her fatigue, seizures and chronic pain, she fills her daily hours by the creek side making Art and re-building a home for herself.
Joei Aneeyah Canzone Delluccello
Following a time in Joei's life of brutal abuse and rape, that resulted in a brain injury, and left her mentally distraught as a capital crime survivor. Joei found herself grappling with a newfound challenge: acceptance and self love. Delluccello sees people with disabilities too often portrayed as either an inspiration or as a tragedy, but her art work asks the viewer to see beyond these two stereotypes. She realized that while words may sometimes elude her, she could vividly envision imagery and craftiness, which she skillfully translated into some type of art. Turning her inner turmoil into tangible expressions of creativity, she discovered a powerful outlet for self-expression and healing. Joei's story inspires hope and underscores the transformative power of determination and self - acceptance. She stands as a beacon of strength, embodying the profound truth that, even in the face of adversity, there exists the potential for growth, self-love, and extraordinary transformation.
Joei's artwork, most of which involves pottery, resin art and soap making is now on display at the Creamery Arts Center in Hotchkiss Colorado
