Through vivid colors, authoritative brushstrokes, and an astute perception of depth and light, Mark W. Malone's purpose is to immerse his audience in the allurement of the southwest landscape within his paintings. Being one with the outdoors in oil paint on canvas, Malone gleans inspiration through the Colorado landscape as well as his beliefs in Native American philosophy. His travels with the Navajo nation at a young age have largely motivated his worldviews in both art and life. Canvases such as North Fork Kaleidoscape (2015) simultaneously capture the snow-capped peaks, rolling plains, and cliff-side valleys against a translucent southwestern sunset. Vibrant shades of blue, gold, violet, and green work in harmony throughout his oeuvre to celebrate what Malone illustrates as “the hidden palette of my surroundings.”

I am a carpenter by trade, an occupation I have worked in for 30 years. I have made many custom signs, including the Phoenix Gold Mine sign in Idaho Springs and the three-dimensional "Falling Waters" sign made of metal, logs, with twisted branches for the waterfall.

I am also a furniture maker. In 2016, I joined together with artist, Joei Delluccello, and together we created this fine candelabra table from cedar burned in the Wake Fire on Wakefield Mesa near Paonia in July of 1996. This table is uniquely trimmed out with 5 gold mining bits and rare marcasite stones.

My all time favorite piece of carpentry work is the folding rocking chair! I based this on a design by my grandpa Malone and made of No. 1 pine. The canvas sling-style seat is screen printed with a custom design. It's a great camping fishing/camping chair, "I call it 'Grandpaw Malone Chair.'"

I create paintings of Colorado and Native American beliefs. As a self- taught, fine artist, I am influenced by the Native American philosophy as everything is living. I view the world at the perfect moment, then capturing the heart of that feeling in each of my paintings; starting with the sky, mountains, trees, water and all the spirits of life. I manifest the image in my mind, and then bring the paintings to life by developing an emotional seizing depth, which is hard to escape. I paint using calculated and deliberate brush strokes.  My paintings are original,  and truly part of my being; I put a part of myself into each piece. I prefer to paint on location and in the quiet with nature. I paint for hours at a time, absorbing the essence of elements in the universe.
